Points are not money!

Hello fellow exchangers,

We have been members now for three years and have enjoyed greatly meeting many wonderful people who have become good friends, stayed in many homes and have had many good people stay with us who looked after our properties very well.

We have however encountered some exchangers who complained that they had to pay points when mutual exchanges were agreed because our chalet asked for more points than their apartment (for example). We had agreed a refund of the difference because we know that the points are plentiful and have no monetary value.

Most of these members use their properties as AirBnB revenue and often confuse points with money. It would be good to send a reminder every now and then that this not the case.

We have also encountered a case where the apartment we stayed in was poorly cleaned and the bedding was stale. The same member also came into the apartment while we were there to retrieve something but didn’t ask permission or tell us beforehand so we thought that wasn’t perhaps the right behaviour.

These are exceptions. On the whole people are wonderful and this organisation has made our lives much richer.

You have some good points here Norman, thank you for sharing. Personally I always set my Guest Points to 0 when offering a reciprocal exchange as I think it’s just much easier. However everyone does things differently. As always with HomeExchange, the key here is communication.

Melissa what happens when you set your points to zero and the other exchangers don’t ? do you know?

The site calculates the difference. If you want a reciprocal without gp, both members need to activate the option

Yes @etienne is correct, you both need to select the option to change the points to 0. It is something that you’d need to discuss with your exchange partner to make sure you’re both happy with that.
