The Number of Exchanges posted on each listing profile is doubled from reality. Mine says Iāve done 92 exchanges. This is NOT true. Iāve done 46. For some (dumb) reason, HE counts each exchange as 2 instead of 1. When a member does an exchange (reciprocal, for example) they exchange with ONE other member and that member does ONE exchange with me. I donāt go to 2 places and neither do they. HE updates the Hostās profile with a count of 2ā¦ANDā¦the update the Guestās profile with a count of 2, for a total of FOUR!! This is ridiculous, mis-leading, and doesnāt make an ounce of common sense. I contacted HE support and they corrected my count (1 count for each exchange) but soon after I received an email stating their tech dept advised him to change it back to 92. I havenāt been to 92 placesā¦i"ve only been to 46! FIX THIS!!! (please)
I read it as being 2 exchange experiences, that of the host and that of the guest. As itās the same for every member I wouldnāt lose sleep over it.
I donāt lose sleep over it. I just think itās misleading to say Iāve done 92 exchanges when Iāve only travelled to 46 places. Between 2 parties in one transaction the total count should not be 4. Another way to look at it is reviewsā¦if I did 92 exchanges I should have, in theory, 92 reviews (minus those who didnāt post one).
Yes the reviews is part of the reason for this ādoubling upā. You have a review as a host and a review as a guest. They are both very different reviews..
Which is why I roll my eyes repeatedly at the time of year when people start posting their exchange stats on the FB groupsā¦. You havenāt done 100 exchanges - youāve probably done 50!
Just because itās the āsame for every memberā doesnāt mean itās correct.
GADSā¦the thought process behind this poor design is exasperating. HE is giving a count of 2 exchanges to the host and a count of 2 to the guest. Yes, there are 2 reviewsā¦ONE from the host to the guest, and ONE from the guest to the host. Between the host and the guest, thereās a grand total of TWO reviewsā¦but according to HEā¦of 4 exchanges (two per host and two per guest). Thatās ridiculous.
I went ONE place and, yes, it involved 2 parties (myself and the host) to transact the exchange. Within that same exchange transaction, they went to ONE place (mine). Thatās a grand total of TWO exchangesā¦one I did, the other they did. I should be given a count of 1 and they should be given a count of 1. I didnāt go to two and they didnāt go to two for a grand total of 4 between us. If both parties leave a review they will each get a count of 1 review. 2 exchanges and 2 reviews is correct accounting. 2 reviews and 4 exchanges is not correct.
If I engage in a transaction with another person for work and I work 1 hour for him at my $20 rate and he works for me for 1 hour at his $15 rate, do I get paid $40 and he gets paid $30?
No need to respond as it seems itās falling on deaf ears anyway and not giving serious consideration for what is common sense.
It dawned on me I have 3 friends who are also members. So, I wrote them to ask their opinion on the double count. In short, their responses in quotes:
āya⦠I agree itās misleadingā
āAgreed. I guess it looks good or something? But donāt they not only count your HEs to orher places and your HE guests? Deceiving.ā
āThey count both people staying with you and you going to their home as two exchanges. Donāt know why but it used to kind of freak me out.ā
