The answer is yes.
HomeExchange is a community of members who choose to exchange their homes with other members. By finalizing an exchange on the platform, both parties commit to hosting each other on the agreed dates and under the terms they have discussed together.
However, life can be unpredictable, and sometimes circumstances force us to cancel an exchange. So what happens in that case?
Cancellation by the host – a very rare occurrence
First of all, rest assured: cancellation of an exchange by the host is very rare. In any case, our member support team will be here to assist you and help you find a new place to stay.
Let’s take a closer look:
If your host cancells:
- You will get back the GuestPoints you gave your host for the exchange.
- HomeExchange will help you find a replacement exchange that meets the basic criteria of your search (to learn more about these criteria, you can consult our Terms of Use
- If HomeExchange cannot find you a replacement exchange that meets the basic criteria and you choose to cancel your trip, we may financially compensate you for non-refundable expenses directly related to the exchange (train tickets, plane tickets, etc.) up to $120 USD per night, depending on your situation, and up to a maximum of $1,800 USD per exchange.
- If HomeExchange cannot find you a replacement exchange that meets the basic criteria and you choose to pay for alternative accommodation (such as a hotel), we may financially compensate you for those expenses, up to $120 USD per night, depending on your situation, and up to a maximum of $1,800 USD per exchange.
Good to know
If the cancellation is considered your fault (e.g., inappropriate behavior, lack of communication with your host, etc.), unfortunately HomeExchange will not be able to offer financial compensation for the cancellation.
In any case, you will be given the option to choose a comment (from 3 suggestions) to post on your host’s profile after the cancellation.
