Hi, We are considering traveling to Japan (from Miami Beach) in 2027. We are also avid cyclists and long-time home exchangers. I am wondering if anyone has knowledge of places to go, or recommendations of places not to be missed. We love cycling the mountains (Mt Fuji!) and cycling as a way of experiencing local culture “on the ground”. We know we may not be able to use home exchange for our accommodations in this case (although we do have guest points to offer). We welcome any thoughts from those familiar with traveling through Japan, especially cyclists.

Wow what a great trip you have planned. There are not that many exchange homes in Japan (190 total at the moment), but it is certainly possible. Have you tried doing a search for “Japan” to find other past conversations. Also I would add it to your travel wishlist on your profile if you haven’t already done this.

I think it’s really cool what you are planning I would definitely do as much research as you can online. I’ve taken many bicycle trips over a thousand miles, but Japan is not a place that I would recommend doing that. That said things may have changed since I lived there.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the prices over there. The quality is generally higher than the US for food and such and the prices are generally less than Mexico. It’s kind of shocking actually.
We are planning to cycle with an outfitter as opposed to a self-guided tour. I’d be interested if you have any thought or recommendations of places. The cycling in Japan seems amazing from the research we have done thus far. Thanks
