Seeking Help with Japan Exchange - Mother & Teen Son’s Anime Adventure!

Hi Home Exchange community! :waving_hand:

I’m Beate, new to the platform and excited to share that I’ve already arranged 3 lovely exchanges with our UK home. Now I’m hoping for some help with my biggest adventure yet!

My 15-year-old son is a passionate anime fan, and we’re planning to make his dream come true with a trip to Japan (October 18-31). This is going to be such a special mother-son journey, but I’m hitting a roadblock with finding hosts.

Our Situation:

  • Dates: October 18-31, 2025

  • Locations: Tokyo, Kyoto

  • Already hosting: 3 families in October, November (so building good references!)

  • Challenge: Getting auto-rejected after 4 days from most Japanese members I contact

Would love your advice:

  • Any tips for connecting with Japanese hosts?

  • Are there active Japanese members here who could share insights?

  • Maybe someone has successfully exchanged in Japan and can offer guidance?

We really want to make this work! Any suggestions or help would be so appreciated. :folded_hands:

Very few members (116 in Japon, 80000 in France !) fixed dates, last minute. Very difficult.

Ahh I can see your problem :frowning: Japan is a very popular destination, but there are not a huge number of members there. A few suggestions - firstly please do share your link to your listing as you never know who may see this post. There are various articles on the Forum and the main website about how to best write an exchange proposal, such as this one: How to Write Your Exchange Proposals - Advice from Lou Make sure you are personalising every request. Are you looking for a Guest Point exchange? Can you open it up to a reciprocal, either simultaneous or non-simultaneous? Have you tried doing a reverse search? Also it might be a bit late in the day, but also try adding this trip to your Preferred Destinations list with the dates.
