We just returned from a wonderful cycling trip to the Stelvio Region and the Dolomites in Italy. Last year we cycled the French and Swiss Alps and the year before in Mallorca. All amazing home exchange experiences. Would love to connect with other road cyclists and compare notes and share recommendations. Thank you!
Hi Terri!
This year, I cycled from Avignon in France to Barcelona in Spain and it was a fun, challenging cycle as we had to go to through the Pyrenees. Otherwise, I had really enjoyed our bike trip along the Atlantic Coast from La Rochelle to Arcachon (both lovely destinations!)
Check out Girona (Spain), is a super bike friendly city (that feels like a town), and with beautiful roads to explore!
Not the first time Iβve heard Girona is great for cyclists. Did you do a home exchange there? Any particular areas of the town that would be great central locations? And any bike shops you recommend? We usually do not travel with our bikes, but prefer to rent bikes from a knowledgable bike shop that also helps by providing recommended routes and sometimes guides or group rides. Thank you!
Thank you for the recommendations! Looks beautiful. Love the mountains and will have to put the Pyrenees on our list.
My boyfriend lived there for a couple years (he is a cyclism enthusiastic) so sadly I dont have any particular homeexchange recomendations. You should definetely stay in el casco viejo (old town), it is sooooo beautiful and full of bike stores (with really really good taste), bike cafes⦠If you want some more information I can surely ask my bf for specific stores and routes
Hi Terri, Germany is really great destination for cyclists. We have over 1000 km local routes in our region and there are long distance routes if you want to explore more then one area. There are routes for everybody.
I am not a sportswoman, so our family routes were the flat ones. We did a 7-day route in the Rhine Valley with our kids when they were 6 and 10, and few shorter day routes around Constance Lake when our older was 3 (we had a bike trailer and it was carring our daughter and her bike when it was time to nap) and we explored Dars peninsula in the Baltics and Maerkische Schweiz in Brandenburg almost completely on bikes. If you are a camper, there are cyclist camp sites along the long distance routes, so you can easily combine HE and camping.
At home we manage our daily life only with bikes and use our car only for travels.
Happy cycling&exchanging!
Thank you so much, Rosanda. We love learning about new areas!
