Road trip in Albania with two HE accommodations

We live in Romania. In the first half of the year we had a trip to Italy, where we had two GP stays. But that’s not what I want to write about now.

In the first half of September we did a 3000 km road trip with the final stop in the Albanian town of Shkoder. There I found a very nice owner who made a reciprocal exchange, although he has not yet decided when, but he will definitely come to Transylvania.

Contrary to general opinion, I have to tell you that Albania is not a backward, run-down country. It is true that it is not at the forefront in terms of cleanliness and compliance with the rules, but the roads are mostly good and their tourism is close to Central European level. One of the country’s attractions is the Prokletije Mountains, also known as the Albanian Alps, where you can admire peaks of unique beauty and deep gorge valleys. We visited the southern part of the Teth National Park, which we reached by a ferry boat tour. We sailed through a beautiful rocky valley in the Valbona Valley, two hours on the first day and two hours on the return. We had pay accommodation in Valbona, simple but comfortable. We even had half a day for hiking, getting out to a nearby ridge.

One day we visited the town of Velipojë on the Adriatic coast, where we could swim and enjoy the sunshine on a civilised open beach.

In Montenegro, we visited the ruined town of Stari Bar and of course Kotor, both World Heritage sites. Our accommodation was in Podgorica, for points. There we also met our host in person, who explained a lot about the country’s capital. We had time to see the sights of the city.

On the way back home we visited the Tara River Gorge Valley, took photos on the famous Tara Bridge. While traversing the Savin Kuk hill in our little car, you wouldn’t believe it, IT WAS SNOWING! We were considering turning back, but then luckily for us, the switchbacks on the road started to go downhill, and the snow turned to rain.

I could tell you about many more experiences, but I don’t think you’ve read this far. If you did, though, give it a thumbs up!
