Preferred Destinations: Improving Functionality

Currently, you can add up to 20 destinations. That part works fine, although I do miss the Open to offers option that used to exist on HomeForExchange before the merger.

The problem starts when you want to reorder them — it’s not possible. You have to delete all of them and re-enter them from scratch, starting with the least desired and finishing with your top choice.
There should be a feature that allows us to drag them up or down, just like we can with the photos, which we can reorder easily.

It also doesn’t allow you to edit the comment you’ve written for each destination. And if you delete the destination to change the comment, it automatically loses its position in your set order.

Since only the first three destinations are shown on your profile at first glance, I consider this an important issue. Depending on the season, I prefer to have some destinations appear higher up than others (for example, when winter is approaching, I want France to appear at the top because of the ski resorts).

Thanks a lot in advance!

Great suggestion!

Totally reasonable that people would want to rank the destinations in order of priority, and edit things like priority, narrative, and dates easily and quickly without having to re-do a lot of work.

I suspect that the platform does not use a decent relational database system to store this information. If they did, then editing and re-ordering the list would be simple and fast. It’s probably internally stored in flat, sequential files with little or no indexing capability. Same with the geographic information system. The fact that there is so much difficulty with reverse-searching (still awkward in the browser, doesn’t work on the app) shows that they are either not using a good GIS or not using one at all.

With the huge boom in membership over the past couple of years, there should be more effort and funds invested into improving the platform. There is a long list of improvements needed.
