It would be so great if GP could vary with demand and in line with values that vacation rentals charge so that I could open up dates on my seasonal rental and be rewarded in GP, vs. feeling like I need to block them to use vacation rental platforms for revenue. It doesn’t make sense for most seasonal locations to receive the standard GP during high season.
Please vote / comment if you would open up your dates during high season if the GP could vary to give you market “rate” during that period. Thanks!
Personally, I am totally against this idea, as it only serves to further reinforce the monetization of GuestPoints and makes reciprocal exchanges even more difficult.
Perhaps it’s because my home exchange experience goes back many years, to a time when GuestPoints didn’t even exist, and exchanges were based on one night in your home for one night in another, regardless of size or location—without evaluating whether our home was bigger or in a more desirable place than the other family’s one.
Following that logic, others could start asking for more points in summer for air conditioning, or in winter for heating, or more points depending on how many people are involved in the exchange, or even more points for providing bed linen and towels… and so on, until it becomes nothing more than a rental disguised through GuestPoints—something that’s already happening to some extent with cleaning fees, which have become standard for many families.
