Hello! We are Melissa and George and we live in Brooklyn, NY and the Catskill mountains with our 8 year old daughter, 10 year old son and our cat, Cougar. I am a school administrator and George is a public interest lawyer.
Our Brooklyn home is on a beautiful historically preserved brownstone block in Bed Stuy nearby amazing music venues, food, and history. We are right off the A train so we easily travel into Manhattan for shows or museums, out to the beach in the summer, and to JFK for trips! It’s a really fun place to be a kid.
We also have a small home up in the Catskill mountains with beautiful views or the mountain and on a small private lake where we like to kayak and swim. There are also incredible restaurants, breweries, and galleries.
After not traveling very much during the pandemic, we’re trying to explore as much as possible while the kids are at a great age for traveling! We just did our first exchange with a family in Paris and had the time of our lives.
We are hoping to visit Barcelona, Mexico City, or Columbia next February (though we are open to other ideas in places where it’s not too too cold!) and Ireland, the south of France, or Spain next April or July.

Being from NYC/Brooklyn, you will have tons of requests for exchanges! I will put my hat in the ring as well. I live in Livermore, CA which is the east most part of the Bay Area, CA. We are actually going to NYC at the end of October if you are interested in an exchange, but even if that doesn’t work you can keep us in mind if you ever want to travel to Northern California. I’ve been trying to find a place for 5 adults for next year - hubby and I are planning a US trip for our 60th birthdays, and my 2 cousins and ones husband would to join us on the trip. It’s quite difficult trying to find somewhere that all 5 of us can fit. Hotels are out of the question unless we win the lottery .

Sadly, the kids are still in school, so we can’t make those times work. But I’ll keep you in mind for a future New Zealand visit!
One tip I can offer, though, is to try Jersey City or Hoboken for hotels. The PATH train runs right into the city and hotels there are much cheaper than in Manhattan or Brooklyn.
Good call! Air BnB is banned in NYC, so going out to NJ is the best way to make that work. Just make sure they mention path or New Jersey Transit in their listing.

Maybe you wanna consider visiting Dalmatian coast?
I am struggling to find accessible exchange, offering my sublet on Dalmatian coast of Croatia for New York. Anything between few days to multiple months would be superb in flexible time span starting from September 2024 all the way through 2025. The difficulty is I need accessible entrance (I walk with multiple joint replacements, so no stairs).
Croatia sounds amazing and is definitely on our list, but our home doesn’t fit your needs, sadly. It can only be accessed by a set of brownstone steps.
I’m hoping you find something in an elevator building!
