We’ve recently visited Utrecht, and our hosts recommended us a trip to the Spielklok Museum, a museum featuring music-making machines.
It was brilliant! We felt like kids inside a candy shop, among all the big organs and tiny music boxes. Their free tour took us through the different ages of instrument making, and we could use our entrance cards to play them ourselves. It was such an highlight of the trip!
So I was wondering: do you have any nice museums where you live? Which ones do you usually recommend that your guests visit in town?
I live in a relatively small town in Portugal called Tavira, but it has 2 museums!
The one we like the most is the “Arraial Ferreira Neto”, a tuna fishing village turned hotel resort. You can freely wander inside and see the old accommodations for the fishermen’s families, as well as the church and the school. There’s a small museum room dedicated to its history and the history of tuna fishing in Algarve, where you can see a diorama of the old “almadrava”, the huge structure that they used to set up in the sea to catch tuna.
