Hi, we are about to do our first reciprocal exchange and are very excited. We have arranged to swap cars as well (I know HE doesn’t cover this) and are trying to find temporary insurance for our guests (EU license) to be able to drive our UK car in the UK. We can’t find anyone at all who will do it! Any recommendations very very gratefully received- we are so worried about letting down our guests.
Hi, some members get around this by using person to person car rental companies like Truro. You put your car as available on the site for a very low amount and your guest ‘rents’ your car on the site. The site covers them with insurance so they can drive the car they’ve ’ rented’.
Thank you! Do you happen to know how much the platform charges for the fees and insurance? I can’t believe how hard this is!
No idea. There are several different platforms for rentals between members. It seems it’s a very easy solution in fact.
I’ve made it in France with Getaround site. My car was set at 10€/ day. My Guests paid it and I refunded them. I paid the site fee, for a week around 50€
Welcome to the Forum! A great question. Personally I have not done a car exchange, however many years ago I allowed friends of mine to drive my car on a long journey, so we could share the driving. I just called my current car insurance company and asked to add on a named driver for a set period of time. There was a small fee but it wasn’t much. Have you tried this?
