I am a full-time wheelchair user. It is very difficult finding homes that are actually wheelchair accessible. I can scroll through hundreds of listings that have been ticked off as being wheelchair accessible, but are not. I would like it if more detail could be included in the search criteria. ie wheel-in shower
Hi Marilyn!
Thank you so much for bringing up this important topic! Our team’s actually looking into this issue at the moment to hopefully improve things for members like you in our community. I’ll share your request with our team and let you know if they’d get in touch further to learn more about your experience and needs
Hi Marilyn, it was great to see your post. My house is wheelchair friendly and we have recently installed a lift, which takes my fold up wheelchair without problems. You can roll in then roll right on out when it reaches the first floor. I also have a bathroom set up for someone with a disability.
Our house is mostly open plan so doors and so forth are not a problem. Our home is is #2381320
It is important to consider a shower access when users use the wheelchair symbol - it is of no use if one can get into a house in a wheelchair but then find that they cannot wash/bathe as the home only has a bath and not an accessible shower. Please consider this. Thank you.
Hi,
I agree with this! Although we have an “accessible” listing, there are a few elements of our accommodation that I know may pose some difficulties depending on the individual’s needs (mostly relating to parking of an accessible vehicle and kitchen setup).
It would be good to see some kind of prompt checklist for Hosts and a separate disability-friendly rating system for Guests (ie seperate to the host/home rating that appears on the profile but help identify the level of accessibility relating to wheelchair use or ambulant access - - referring not only to access within the house but also general community facilities.
In the meantime I request our guests ask for more detail if they have specific access needs - although my advice is just based on my working background (occupational therapy) and not lived experience. We are keen for feedback from our guests regarding how the space ca be improved.
Hello, Your home is stunning! It proves that a home can be wheelchair accessible and tastefully decorated.
Thanks, if you ever feel like visiting us, then let us know!
I think this could be solved by stating that to be considered WC accessible there must be a WC accessible shower. And a lesser category for those that don’t include that facility.
