Option for a half bath

It would be good if homes could identify if a bathroom listed is one with a shower/bath , or a half bath.
The number of toilets is useful and is separate from the bath /shower option.

What does half a bath mean? Just a small bath?
I live in The Netherlands where there are not so many homes with two bath rooms, but most homes do have more than one toilet, as does ours. I’ve been to homes where there were two bath rooms, one with a shower and a toilet, one with a bath and a toilet. We have one bath room with shower and bath and a separate toilet. It’s the same amount of baths and showers, though, of course, in our situation, guests who don’t want to see each other naked can’t shower at the same time. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: But it is definately handy to know.
So, in summary: I agree.

Your reaponse made me laugh-- in a good way.
What we mean in Canada by a half bath is a room with just toilet and sink. If youbare having 4 guests its good to have more than one toilet. The full bath would be same but with tub and/or shower.

We had guests who were disturbed that they didnt know there was only one shower, when our listing said 2 baths. It is very clear in the description now however, but perhaps there’s a way to clarify toilets vs bath/ shower.

I would expect two showers, too, when the listing says the home has two baths … Wouldn’t mind though, less bath rooms is less rooms to clean when we leave. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: But this is definitely an(other) argument for an extra box.

Slightly digressing but it would be excellent if listings could identify if they have a stand alone shower as opposed to a shower which is over a bath. We need a shower as my wife has mobility issues and cannot get in and out of a bath. Some listings show the disabled icon but then have only a bath.

It would be nice but there are so many nuances it might be better to state number of toilets and showers or something simple or view the photos. Perhaps people who have lots of concerns can ask. We have 2.5 baths but we also have an outdoor shower so 3 toilets , 3 showers. I do understand the roll in shower issue but I would expect that to be covered under handicap accessibility.

Hello Levinack ,

Basically, homeexchange is not a real estate website.
It is a website to find a place (bigger, smaller, new, old, etc) to exchange for a short or less short period of time.

If some equipments are important such as an elevator for people who have problem to walk, it is important to be flexible on other points.
Even if these points are important to you.

Size of the beds are different between countries, bathrooms, appliances etc…

The key success is to be open minded.
Toilets can be in the bathroom (or in the garden  ) but the house very well placed.
It can be a real toilets where you can throw the paper in it or a sani crusher or a toilet where it is strictly forbidden to throw toilet paper in it (a garbage is near).

Listings must be clear with many photos.

I admit it can be deceptive.
Once we went to a place with 2 beds but the 2nd bed was a child bed and our teenage was obliged to sleep in the sofa in the living room.
It was more the host who was not clear on this equipment than a problem with the search boxes.

The solution is: put good photos to show all your rooms.
In my case, a photo shows a bathroom with bath, toilet, sink and washing-machine.
Another photo shows what you call a half-bathroom, with a toilet and sink.
At present I have no choice but to mark them as 2 bathrooms! Yes, it could be changed by having 2 different boxes to tick.

Uhm, we have a bathroom with toilet, shower, and bath and we have a separate toilet. I put it down as having one bathroom, for a toilet is not a bathroom … I do have pictures on my listing of both.

So to be fair with everyone, H.Ex. should put 3 boxes which we choose from:

  1. Full bathrooms (bath/shower+toilet+sink)
  2. Half-bathrooms (toilet+sink) Mine is 2.7m X 1.1m.
  3. Toilet closets (toilet only). This could be very small, even 1m X 1m.
Like that, everyone knows what to find.

And for the full bathrooms, being able to check wether there’s a shower and/orbath would be handy too.
