“A picture is worth a thousand words,” as Confucius supposedly said. That’s true on HomeExchange too: when browsing listings on the platform, the first thing that catches our eye is the photos.
So here are a few tips to help showcase your home through your photos:
Tidy Up Your Home 
Put away that glass left on the table, the pan on the kitchen counter, the laundry in the corner of the bedroom, make the bed: in short, tidy each room before taking photos.
Feel free to show the warm welcome you offer your guests, for example by placing clean towels on the bed or a nice bouquet of flowers on the table. The idea is to show the home as your guests will find it on arrival.
Be Transparent 
No home is perfect, and that’s perfectly fine, because what HomeExchangers are looking for is not perfection, but immersion: experiencing your home, a different atmosphere, and something new.
However, for an exchange to go smoothly, it’s important to be completely transparent with your exchange partners. Don’t hide the imperfections of your home. Transparency is the key to a successful exchange.
Let the Light In!

Take your photos in good weather, ideally on a sunny day

Avoid backlighting: if possible, keep the window behind you when taking photos
Be Thorough 
Make sure to upload at least one photo of every room that will be accessible to your guests, to help them imagine themselves staying there.
Choose Your Main Photo Carefully 
When uploading your photos, think carefully about the main photo of your listing, the one that will appear in search results. It should make people want to click on your listing to learn more!
Organize the Rest of Your Photos 
Your photo gallery should feel logical and easy to follow. Guests should be able to picture themselves in your home. Take them on a little tour through your photos! Arrange them in the order someone would naturally visit the home.
