Aragón has attractive elements such as nature, mountains, skiing and first-class gastronomy, in addition to having a privileged location.
Mycological tourism: it is among others the best way to enjoy Aragon in autumn.
I have experienced it firsthand since this year, 2024, I had the excellent opportunity to visit.
Valdelinares The highest town in Spain.
It is located at 1,692 meters above sea level, making it the highest municipality in Spain and thanks to the Home Exchanges, where I enjoyed an unforgettable stay and one of the wonders to remember for life was the guided tour of the Mycological Museum where I learned about these mushrooms that enrich our gastronomy.
In Linares de Mora I got to know the Escobón Pine, how majestic it is, approximately 23 meters high, and it is estimated to be 450 years old, ending the day with a pleasant walk to the El Molinete path.
On the way we went up to visit the Resureccion Mine, which was the first mine exploited to obtain zinc, at the beginning of the 20th century.
Sierra de Gudar, the Gudar Canyons with the refreshing Yedra Waterfall where I gladly bathed and on the way we saw the “Fuen Narices” fountain.
Butterfly Path Route in the Chopo Cabecero Cultural Park.
To make known the richness of butterflies in these mountains, the Parque Cultural del Chopo Cabecero del Alto Alfambra in collaboration with BMS Spain and the Government of Aragon, have organized a day of observation of butterflies and moths, the aim is to bring children and adults to these very interesting insects. The aim is to identify some of the species of butterflies, to know the plants on which the caterpillars or adults feed, to understand how the processes of global change can affect them … And all this in the countryside, walking through the meadows of the valley of Sollavientos.
The activity is free.
The region of Gúdar-Javalambre was certified in 2016 as a Starlight Reserve and Destination by the foundation of the same name, recognized by Unesco. It is considered one of the best areas for stargazing in Europe.
The sky in the Gúdar Javalambre region is very important. That clear and clear sky that we enjoy during the winter is the one that helps us to dry the delicious hams and sausages of D.O. and helps the development of the black truffle.
The starry sky and clean light pollution is what has led to the construction of one of the most important Astrophysical Observatories in Spain.
The one in Gúdar is one of the viewpoints that have been established in the towns to promote Starlight Tourism.
The climb to Alto del Hornillo, with a height of 2001 meters, was amazing since on the way I enjoyed seeing the animals, especially the cows in the meadows where they grazed freely throughout the day.
Peñarroya, highest peak in Teruel 2,028 meters called Roof of Teruel with very cold temperature, climb through the Valdelinares ski resort.
The vertex measures approximately 10 meters high. If you wish, you can go up to the highest part, thanks to 10 staples that have been placed on one of the sides.
At its feet we will find some stone tables and benches. If we continue walking and go beyond the vertex, we will find a small viewpoint, where an illustration informs us of most of the points of interest in the area.
We were invited to visit this Aragonese land again in autumn.
I accepted the proposal of the visit and in the first week of autumn we reserved a house in Ejulve through the Home Exchange platform.
It was a unique week since I am a tour guide and I have prepared a tour of Aragon.
We began the first visit in Calomarde- Barranco de la Hoz-River Blanco- walking above between cliffs is a great experience, hiking through the Arcos Canyon, impressive rock formations, griffon vultures that fly over, bridges and walkways that give a touch of adventure to this excursion.
The Batida Waterfall is beautiful with abundant water in autumn and the air is pure and fresh on the surrounding paths to the Cueva del Moro.
Albarracín, history and legend/famous house of Mrs. Julianeta.
“The Blue House” We came across a love story" that if you don’t know it, I’ll tell you because it’s very funny.
A young man from the most powerful family in the town falls in love with an Andalusian beauty on one of his trips. The two ended up arriving in Albarracín to start a new life together.
The brave young man put all his effort into making his beloved feel at home and decided to paint the hunt in blue. He also added an Andalusian patio to the house where they lived and his beautiful young woman found a small Andalusia in the middle of Albarracín.
Teruel -Walking along the Escalinata del Óvalo or the station stairs built more than 100 years ago, an asset of cultural interest in Teruel and having a delicious breakfast at the Horno Sanz cafeteria.
EJULVE- few but united. They have a saying that I liked “PUT ARAGON ON YOUR TABLE”.
They refer to fresh cheese, cured and semi-cured cheese, Ejulve cottage cheese and a delicious Dominio Maestrazgo red wine that we received as a gift from the host Fernando.
The Silente Route viewpoint and monument where we took photos and made good memories.
The sculpture represents a large male mountain goat four meters high and invites the traveler to contemplate the landscape from this place, one of the best viewpoints on the route.
The Silent Route has a new element dedicated to motorcyclists.
Located in the new Ejulve rest and picnic area, the “biker greeting”.
The figure presents a “V”, the characteristic greeting among motorcyclists.
Escucha - Museum Mine called “Se Vera” It is a real coal mine, currently converted into a unique museum that invites you to put yourself in the shoes of the miner from the year 1865 working at a depth of about 90m and conditions that are difficult to imagine.
The guide told us an anecdote about the miners that I would like to share with you. The miners of that time used to eat their sandwiches and give some to the rats that lived with them during the working day, so that they would not leave. They were the ones who warned of any dangerous situation because they run away. The rats notice the temperature, the lack of oxygen, they foresee the catastrophe… if there were no rats, it would be a bad thing.
The Escucha fossil forest is a small and comfortable tour within the facilities of the Escucha Mining Museum, in its southern part, made up of 19 pieces of petrified logs with an age of approximately 110 million years.
YOU CAN’T MISS THIS GUIDED TOUR.
Peñarroyas, Mirador El portillo de Peñarroya with spectacular views of the town and the Martín River, geological tour, dinosaur footprints and a pleasant walk among the reddish canyons.
The viewpoint offers a beautiful view of the surroundings, highlighting the polychrome of the landscape.
Montoro de Mezquita-we went up by chains, climbed to the Vallore viewpoint, we continued through the Vallore strait on the Vallore walkways to the mouth of hell. Spectacular views of the Montoro Organs and without forgetting to mention the walk on the Hoz Mala walkway.
Aliaga- La Clara Waterfall and Tamborera Waterfall, pollution-free site along the Jalmero ravine, very fresh water and a pleasant walk.
Miravete de la Sierra, is the last small Aragonese town visited but it remains in my memory as the largest due to its medieval architecture, a unique place far from the madding crowd.
Thank you very much HomeExchange once again for giving us the wonderful opportunity to see impressive places, big-hearted people and enjoy the beauty of nature.
For me, traveling is breathing and writing is my therapy! Shall we go on a getaway?
