Thank you to all HomeExchangers for your valuable feedback regarding the update to Reverse Search that was made a few weeks ago. We are happy to announce that we have taken your comments into account to create a Reverse Search that better suits your needs.
A Brief History of Events
As we mentioned a few weeks ago (see (POST CLOSED) A New Layout for Reverse Search - Web Only), we recently revised the layout of Reverse Search. In this new version, you no longer needed to specify your city, region, or country: the system automatically identified your home and its location.
The goal of this change was twofold:
- To fix the bugs that Reverse Search had previously suffered from
- To make the use of this much-loved feature easier
However, many of you informed us that you preferred the old version, because the new version:
- Produced too many results
- No longer allowed you to broaden the search radius beyond a 20km perimeter around your location
- No longer allowed you to manually enter your preferred destination in Reverse Search (for example, a member living in a less touristy destination would have preferred to see who wanted to visit the nearest large city rather than their small, lesser-known village)
Two Versions of Reverse Search Now Available
After this announcement, many of you asked for the return of the old version. At the same time, the new, simpler version seemed to be very appreciated by other members.
That’s why we have decided to offer both versions of Reverse Search:
- The new version, which will be the default version - and is described here: (POST CLOSED) A New Layout for Reverse Search - Web Only
- The old version, accessible just below (click on the dropdown menu to access it)
Depending on your preferences, you can now use both versions of Reverse Search to see who wants to come to your place:
- Either click on your address to automatically see who has added your city and a 20km radius around it to their preferred destinations. The search results are then sorted by location level:
- First, members who have added your city as a preferred destination
- Then, those who have added your region
- Finally, those who have added your country
- Or manually enter the name of the city, region, or country you’re looking for, to see the members who have added that city, region, or country among their preferred destinations (very useful for members living in less popular cities or regions)
Web Only
This dual version is only available on the web.
On the app, it’s still the old version, where you manually enter the city, region, or country you’re searching for.
