With winter around the corner, (for those living in Ottawa, Canada, will understand me this is a perfect time to remember our Italy vacation this summer.
It was our first reciprocal international exchange and first time for our kids to visit Italy. I remember well the day I was doing a search to see who would be interested in discovering Ottawa and seeing Itri on results got me curious. I googled where this place is and fall in love with it. All stars align and we connected with a nice family from Itri who wanted to come to Ottawa for their son school graduation. Their oldest son was in Ottawa for a year on a school exchange program.
We talked to the family and decided that we should keep in touch and once they have more details on when they can come we’ll continue our discussion. Fast forward a few months and we were discussion flights and how to make this exchange work. We decided to do a car exchange as well. Once all details were in place we were waiting for that June day. We met the family at the airport where we gave them our car and they gave us their car keys and our adventure began.
I don’t think I have to tell anyone how beautiful Italy is, but when you go places that are not on tourist top list, it’s something different. We were blown away by the beauty of the town we were in. The generosity of people around, even though no one was speaking English. The food is something I’ll go back in a heart bit.
If you ask my kids what’s the favourite thing about Italy, they’ll say gelato and pizza, but also trying to fish in the ocean or jumping from a boat in a clear blue water.
I’ll let the pictures talk on how great and special this vacation was. Thank you Home Exchange for offering us this opportunity.
