Insurance coverage

Hello from Canada. My insurance company has flatly said they will drop us if we proceed with a home exchange. I would dearly like to drop them first! What insurance companies are open to exchanges?

This does seem to be a popular topic at the moment. Have you tried using the search function to find other similar posts and advice on there?

Yes I have but all I come up with are examples of problems in other countries (Australia, UK).

FYI. My solution for anyone else who might be searching. With a fair bit of effort, we found an insurance company through a professional group plan that seemed to support the concept of HE. We switched home policies to The Personal-a company owned by Desjardins. It is more expensive than our previous policy but worth it for peace of mind. They said HE falls under the category of short-term renting, even though they seem to understand it is not actually a rental. They will not cover damages or theft but will still cover for more catastrophic things like fire etc. HE guarantee should cover for damage and theft. Our original company gave us no recourse at all. They would drop us if we proceeded with HE. The other company that seemed amenable to HE in Canada was Square One. Hope this helps anyone else confronting this issue!
