Hello I’m from Scotland UK and need advice on house insurance (buildings and contents) coverage that will also be valid during a home exchange. I am aware that Home Exchange covers for damage / theft by guests but wanted to be sure that my house insurance coverage remains valid while home exchange guests are in the house. Apparently this is not the case for all policies - they say they would have to make endorsements for every exchange (they treat it as a let). Can anyone recommend an insurance company that does this? I know Aviva will but it is very expensive. Thank you!
Welcome to the Forum This is a popular topic and one that has been discussed many times in the past. Have you tried searching for the word ‘insurance’ on the Forum? Here you will find lots of advice.
Thank you - I’ve seen the earlier posts but they don’t answer my question. Hoping for some replies from UK exchangers.
Have you managed to get a suitable insurance policy? I am in Scotland too, and would love to start doing exchanges.
I’m afraid although I am personally an exchanger in the UK I can’t recommend a particular insurance company. My old insurer was very vague and said they would insure my home if friends were staying but wouldn’t be more specific. I think it just varies so much that you have to just check with each one that you are interested in. There are other insurers that offer cover that is more suitable to people who rent out their homes - but from what I have heard this is more expensive.
