Bed sizes

I understand there are different bed sizes around the world but I believe the most common are single, double, queen and king, perhaps with different names but similar sizes. Why does HE not allow a more accurate description of bed size. Not all descriptions provide it either. In the US at least there’s a big difference between a double and a queen for two grown adults and would be good to know up front before making a request.

Welcome to the forum wgoldner!

I totally agree with you. Double and queen mean nothing to me. I think it would be best to use actual sizes. I made a suffestion to do this a while ago in this topic. I’ll vote here, too.

I asked for this, too. And specially when talking about kids beds!! You never know what size are they!

I don’t know if there is a world bed size guide that could be put on the HE site. I think this could be a first step toward your request. I have so far had not had a need so I only look before I go to a country. I don’t find a big difference in queen to double but I know tall people do. Also some may not recognize a bed size saying double or full.

Welcome to the Forum and thank you for your suggestion. This is indeed a topic that often comes up. As i’m only 5ft 1 it isn’t really something that I have trouble with  however of course I understand the issues for a taller person. I have just looked up whether there are universal bed sizes and I didn’t actually realise how different they are from country to country! For example, a “king” size bed in the US is larger than a “super king” size in the UK, and European sizes often differ from both. I will certainly pass this onto the product team

Even if you just had to state in the terms your country uses what each bed size was, every one could look up what that means. But so often hosts don’t provide any details and the options Home Exchange provides are not adequate.

I was thinking about this and you could have a picture for all countries and then tell people what to tick off for their beds in categories for the search engine. Suitable for 2, suitable for 1, suitable for children under x cm, suitable for babies. This does not solve all expectations but it makes the beds searchable. Some suitable for 2 are ok for average people but not the extremely tall. And you would also have a reference. Having people put exact sizes would not be easily searchable given the international list of bed sizes I found. I think the current systems captures this some but not on all sizes as a children’s bed can be quite short or not.
