I like HomeExchange and happy that it exists, a thing to improve is to ask hosts to put information about the type of mattresses that there are in the house
Example “Springs type”, " full Memory foam", “Half memory foam, half normal foam”, “Hard, Soft, Medium”
The mattress it’s very important for a good sleep and so a good trip.
I have been to a house where the mattress was very hard and without springs, on which was impossible to sleep as made me pain on the back and at the end I had to buy an inflatable mattress to sleep on.
Other time had a too soft mattress that also made pain on the back and was annoying.
So HomeExchange platform should incite people to put this information on their listing, as this is a information that can’t be figured out from the photos.
Advice for hosts: I slept on hundreds of mattresses and can advise that the springs mattress medium hardness, not too soft not too hard it’s the best.
I don’t know what type of mastress I have, bought 15 years ago, and I Guess most members don’t know that by Heart. If it’s important to you,just Ask in the communication, not everything Can be listed or be a filter
Yeah pillows can be annoying too, but less of a problem that the mattress that is impossible to carry on or buy new one for a week of stay.

Sure MarcusVarum , it is difficult to say something for the matress because it is a personal taste.
I don’t blame the others for pillows because i know it’s me who need a very flat pillow.
When i arrive in a US bedroom with 3849 big pillows on the bed to look like a home fashion catalogue, i take a big breath and throw them away.
If you know your taste ( for exemple hard matress) the easier is to ask.
A « nice » matress does not mean anything.
Soft or hard is more precise.
