I did a 12 people search as we are a group of ten, with potential for another couple to accompany us.
We found a house, contracted the owner and agreed on an exchange. During messages, i asked if another couple could join us. I didn’t ask this upfront unfortunately. The answer was no and the owner gave us several reasons that don’t really make sense.
My question is, if the houses is advertised as accommodating 12, does it matter if we only asked for 10 originally. I thought that we were exchanging houses (or guest points) and not people. Surely if the house accommodates 12, we should be able to bring 12? Am I being unreasonable?
This is indeed a tricky situation. Although the home technically can accommodate 12 people the finalised agreement was for 10 people, and this is what the contract is between the host and the guest. Ultimately it is their home and therefore up to them what they choose to agree to. You can of course contact member support for more assistance, but i’m not too sure if it will change the outcome.
The reasons don’t make sense to you but they do to the owner and the owner really doesn’t have to give you a reason. Had you said 12 initially they may have said no also or perhaps they would say yes but you don’t know. It is always best to plan upfront for your group size. Sometimes it is the composition or the changing that puts hosts off and you have to respect their wishes. I do wish though that people could put the number they want to host typically and not let the beds calculate the occupancy.
