I’ve had 2 people ask if they can become a host is they are renters and not owners of their place??
Also, one person asked - does renters’ insurance work with HE?
Thank you for your support
This would depend on whether the landlord was in agreement with them doing Home Exchange. I would recommend to them that they speak with their landlord and check. With regards to the Renters Insurance this would depend on the policy in question and they would need to check with their insurance company.
People who are renting are definitely using HomeExhange. If having guests over for a limited amount of time is allowed by the rental contract and/or the local laws I assume there shouldn’t be any problem. This is not Airbnb, and as far as I know home exchanges are not treated in the same ways the short-term rentals in which the host receives money from the guests are.
It would be good if homeexchange.com released some information on this though.
Thank you for this And I agree! Just wanted to ask bc I was doubting myself and wasn’t 100% sure.
They should have a good understanding of home exchange and how they will use it before they ask their landlord. They want to be able to clearly state what they are doing. Also some leases have provisions limiting visitors to x number of days in a month which would cover shorter HE exchanges so they should read their lease. Be clear with the landlord this isn’t subletting. As a landlord myself I would not object to short exchanges but if someone wanted to home exchange for months I would have concerns as in my state that length of stay is not allowed in the lease as it could give tenant status to the person staying.
