💥 [NEW] Sort your favorites into folders

You were asking for it (for… quite some time), and we’ve finally done it! (Some of you might say: about time :upside_down_face:).

Dear HomeExchangers, we’re pleased to announce that you can now organize your favorite homes into folders :tada:

:file_folder: Get organizing!

No more single folder where hundreds of homes pile up! From now on, you’re in control: favorite folders are a simple way to organize your favorites into folders that you customize yourself according to your own system.

For example, you can organize your favorites:

  • by destination by creating folders such as “Italy”, “France”, etc.

  • by travel period, e.g. “Summer 2026”, “Easter 2026”, “Weekends”, etc.

  • by type of home or affinity, e.g. “Cabins”, “Cyclists”, “Seems nice”, etc.

Anything is possible — you decide!

A quick note

When you open your Favorites page, the total number of saved homes might not look quite right at first—no worries, nothing’s been lost! The correct number should update within a few hours.

You might also notice some homes that are no longer available. Those will disappear during the day as well.

🔎 How to view your existing favorites

Go to My Account → Favorite Homes . All your current favorites have been placed in the folder “My unsorted favorites” .

All that’s left is for you to create your own folders (see below). You can create as many folders as you want.

How to create folders and organize your existing favorites

Wherever you are on the platform (in the “Favorite Homes” section, in the search module, or on the results map), simply click the red heart on your favorite homes and follow the instructions to create the desired folder and place the listing in it. Repeat the process for all your favorites.

:light_bulb: Take the opportunity to sort through your favorites and remove those where you have already stayed or that no longer interest you!

:light_bulb: Pro tip: view all your favorites on the map

For HomeExchangers who have saved a large number of favorites, you can view them on a world map to make sorting easier. You can then click directly on the map to place them into the corresponding folders.

To view all your favorites on the map (Web only for now):

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Go to homeexchange.com and select “Anywhere in the world” in the search bar — then launch the search.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: On the results page, click Filters, then check “Show only my favorite homes” in the “Favorite Homes” section.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Confirm — and that’s it!

How to save new favorites into your folders

It’s simple: click the heart on the listing you want to save, then select the corresponding folder or create a new one.

Good to know

:small_orange_diamond: Each individual favorite can only be stored in one folder (e.g. it can’t be saved into “2026 ideas” and “Spain”).

:small_orange_diamond: Your favorites must be placed in a folder.

:small_orange_diamond: When you deselect/delete a favorite, it is removed from the folder where it was stored and therefore disappears from your favorites.

:small_orange_diamond: When you add or remove a favorite, a notification will appear to confirm the action (made a mistake? No problem — click the notification to undo it).

:small_orange_diamond: You can organize your favorites at any time.

:small_orange_diamond: You can edit your folders at any time from your “Favorite Homes” page, accessible from the main menu.

:small_orange_diamond: Your folders are sorted according to their most recent update date.

:small_orange_diamond: The cover photo of each folder corresponds to the last home added to that folder.

A little bonus: email alerts when your favorite homes add new availability

Nothing has changed here: this is still one of the advantages of saving homes as favorites, as it allows you to receive email notifications when those homes add new availability.

Another benefit: when you add a home to your favorites, the member is notified, which can sometimes lead to mutual exchanges if there’s a shared interest :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Reminder: use the “Favorite Homes” filter to search only among your favorites (web only)

As a reminder, when you perform a search, you have the option to limit the results to homes you’ve saved in your favorites.

To do this, simply check the corresponding filter on the search results page.

That’s all for today. I hope this new feature brightens your day as much as it has ours.

And a big thank you to Benjamin, Catherine, and their entire team for working on this feature while paying the closest possible attention to your requests and needs.

See you soon for more good news! :sparkles:

Favorites Folders are helpful for organizing, but not yet for controlling alerts.

Right now, calendar-change emails still seem to be sent for every saved favorite, regardless of folder. So folders improve sorting, but not notification relevance.

A simple fix would be to let users turn notifications on/off per folder. For example, if I’m only interested in my “Summer” folders, I should not get calendar updates from my “Winter” folders.

Without this, users still get irrelevant emails, which creates inbox fatigue and reduces the value of alerts.
