New member - Unsure about Home Details on my listing

Hello,

I’m a fairly new member and could use some advice about how to categorize my home in the listing details.
I live in a primary residence with a full, legal secondary suite (one bedroom, one bathroom, kitchen, living room, and private patio). We are offering the suite only for exchanges, and we will always be home in our part of the house when guests stay.

Under Home Details, the options are:
• Home type: Apartment (entire home or private room) or House (entire home or private room)
• Residence type: Primary or Secondary
This is where I’m stuck.
It is a house, but guests don’t get the whole house—and it’s more than a private room. Some members with similar setups choose “Apartment,” but a basement suite doesn’t feel like an apartment to me. And for “Residence type,” the upstairs is my primary residence, but the suite itself functions like a secondary residence.
I’m wondering:
• What do others with a similar setup choose?
• Does it matter much for search results or guest expectations?
• Is there a best practice for listing a full suite within a primary home?
When I was searching for my first exchange, I specifically wanted a secondary suite, but I found that people categorize these very differently, which made searching confusing. I’d love some guidance so I can list mine accurately and helpfully.

For me it’s a secondary home. You should list it like it and precise you are not far in the text.

If you list it as a secondary home and put all specifications very clearly in your text, it will be fine.

I have a studio on the second floor of my house, with its own bathroom, kitchen, and terrace. I have listed it as a secondary home, and in the description I explain that, since it is in the same building, we may occasionally run into each other, as we share the entrance to the house.

In practice, this often turns out to be a real advantage: guests appreciate having their own private space while also having someone nearby in case they have questions, need practical advice for their stay, or simply feel like having a chat about aspects of our country or region that spark their interest or curiosity.
