My HomeExchanger of the Year is Brian Day

Brian Day of New Port Richey, Florida, is a superstar! We stayed with Brian and his wonderful family in Oct. after our RV and storage containers were horrendously flooded by Hurricane Helene. Brian brought his sons to help us deal with the chaos on the first day. Then realizing the magnitude of the problem, on the following day Brian rounded up 6 friends so we had a huge crew that worked tirelessly in the rain to empty the 40 foot container, dispose of what couldn’t be saved and help us build platforms and reload what could be saved. Amazing!!! We likely would have lost everything without Brian and his family and friends’ help!!! None of them would accept anything in return except our heartfelt thanks! This was an unplanned emergency trip after we were notified about the flooding. Although their calendar wasn’t open, Brian and Chelce made an exception and welcomed us when we arrived after 4 days of hard driving from Northern California. We were exhausted. I can’t imagine how we could have faced this flood disaster challenge if it hadn’t been for Brian!!! Wonderful host and a family that goes the limit for their guests!!!

This is an amazing Homeexchange story and exactly what I hope can happen with this community in a time of need. Thank you for sharing!

What an incredible story!

That is so wonderfull! :heartpulse:

Oh, what a touching story! I’m so glad that you got the help you needed and made a friend along the way :orange_heart:

Thank you! Brian and his family are truly our heroes! We were already exhausted after our 600+ miles/day drive to Florida. When we opened the storage container and saw the devastation nearly 4 feet of water inside had caused, i was overcome. I couldn’t imagine how we would deal with it since everyone we knew in the area was already overwhelmed trying to deal with their own flooded homes.
Then Brian showed up with his teenage sons and just jumped in: organizing the removal process and giving us hope that somehow we could deal with this nightmare and perhaps salvage some of our contents. In the pouring rain they worked tirelessly until it got dark. The next morning Brian showed up leading a caravan of his friends! Six hours later they had saved close to half our stuff despite the nonstop rain, close quarters, and horrible smells. Truly awesome and astonishing!!! I will be forever grateful!
Brian’s wonderful wife Chelce sent food for everyone since everything was closed.
Did I mention that although Ted and I are in good shape and were able to do a lot, we’re both 80 years old!
