How to become more active with the Home Exchange community

Hello fellow home exchangers! We have been part of this community for almost a year and have done one exchange. We’d love to do more, but probably need a jump start in doing it. We did guest points for a cute little studio in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where I first learned my Spanish many years ago and have always wanted my husband to know the beauty of the town and the Mexican people. It was a perfect location and an ideal set up with a bed, kitchen, bathroom and even a patio above that overlooked the town of San Miguel! We live in Denver, Colorado near Washington Park which has so many fun activities throughout the summer including bands, dancing, paddle boats in the lake, yoga in the boathouse, and amazing playgrounds for the kiddos. I would appreciate any input in how best to reach out to others who may want to do an exchange or a stay for points. We do have a cat and I don’t know if that is a showstopper for some travelers, but he’s an easy peasy guy to care for, so hopefully, we can find some exchanges. Thanks for letting me share! Susie

Hello . Did you try to look at reverse search to find members who could be interested in your area ?

Hello, Etienne! I think maybe I found out how to do that. At least, I saw where certain people are interested in coming to our area. Thank you for responding!

You’re welcome. You can check the process here : https://help.homeexchange.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000730557-What-is-reverse-search-and-how-do-I-use-it

Cats may be an issue due to allergy for some but a plus for others. I think they are going to start a pet page on FB so keep your eye out for that. Did you go on FB home exchange in English? On the HE site put dates in for your desired location even flexible dates. Target an area you want to go and keep reaching out to people with availability. Look at your listing how does it look? Did you highlight in your description festivals and special events? A big marathon? A bike race? How far from skiing? Does it have good pictures including showing all the beds? If you have kids do you list kid stuff? Is it taken in the best season for your house to show it off? how are your points in relation to other houses in the area of your size? Hope that helps you look at some things that might help you with more exchanges.

Hi Susan, I suggest having a good look at your personal profile and house description and ask yourself if the house description has all the information people might look for when they decide where to go. For example I’ve seen profiles without photos of the bedroom and those are a no-go for me because I wouldn’t know what to expect. You could also have a look at other people’s descriptions to find inspiration on what to photograph and write. Many people include photos of the surrounding area or nearby sights. Try to look at your profile with the eyes of other home exchangers. Or let someone else whose opinion you value look at it and tell you what they think. Also, look for fellow home exchanges in your area and see what their profiles look like. I wish you all the best in getting started with some nice exchanges soon!
