Guest points

Is anyone else concerned about Guest Points? My house sleeps 8 people , is in a beautiful medieval village 30 minutes from the UNESCO World heritage site of Carcassonne yet only warrants 120 Guest points a night. After Home exchange took over from Love Home Swap the American style is not friendly to me. Awarding points for hot tubs, home cinemas etc seems ridiculous.. but what do other people think.? It is impossible for me to find equivalent sized houses in areas I want to go for similar points levels..I often have to allow twice as many nights in my house to get any kind of holiday elsewhere

Perhaps you could post the link to your house listing? It seems unreasonable that your house is only 120 points.
How many bedrooms do you have?
What type of beds are they?
What is the approximate size of your house?
Do you have a kitchen with refrigerator, cooktop, oven, sink, etc?
How many bathrooms?

All of those plus four double bedrooms and two bathrooms

I’m puzzled. Your home is worth over 200 points, in my opinion. What have you designated for location? In my opinion you are within 30minutes of a world class tourist site.

I thought that one of the reasons for the existence of this forum is for newer members to get advice and assistance from experienced members in using the platform? Many of us who have had years of experience and dozens of exchanges on the platform have become very familiar with how the current points system works. If every inquiry requires a private message and response to a member of the support team, then why are there volunteer Ambassadors, volunteer Chat helpers, volunteer Facebook admins, a discussion forum, etc?
Why not draw on the experience and opinions of thousands of experienced members?
This seems to be the best place to do it.

Those references you provided apply to questions and incidents and disputes between members, it explicitly states that in the references.
This is obviously not the case in HelenB1’s post. She is asking a question about the point calculation algorithm and questioning why certain amenities are valued (or not valued) properly, in her opinion, using her own home as an example. It is not a dispute between two members. It is a question presented to the forum by a relatively new member who may be unfamiliar with the point calculation algorithm.

Indeed, but still it’s a personnal problem that most members here are not concerned with. There are thousands of members here, like on Facebook groups, and discussions need to stay interesting for everyone. There are thousands of personnal situations dealed every day by the support, so we Ask for it to be seen by the staff. Nothing can be done from here about this problem.

  1. The link you provided gives no detail about the actual point calculation algorithm.
  2. The poster was asking generic questions about the point calculation algorithm and asking for people’s opinions about the value of certain amenities. Yes, she should contact support if she has a personal problem to be solved. But she has every right to express her opinion about which amenities she considers to be useful and valuable, and which amenities she does not consider useful. The whole point of a forum or a facebook group is to discuss ideas and opinions and suggestions about specific topics, and for experienced members to provide advice to newer members. There is even a “suggestion box” category in this forum where people are invited to offer suggestions and opinions about changes to the platform. Are you saying that if anyone has disagreements and suggestions with the way the platform operates, that they should remain silent or speak only in private messages with the support team?

Dear Helen,

The guest point system is not perfect.

For instance, an appartment in central London could have less points than a house in the middle of nowhere because of the size of the place.

A new calculation system is arriving this week.

Check the number of points next week.

To know what amenities give GPs , you can test each box. For example a private parking place or a swimming pool gives points.

The gp algorithm changed today. She might already see a change in fact

1-Indeed the algorithm is not public and no more details are shared.

2-I’m not saying generic problems can’t be talked, but regarding her doubts about her personnal gp allocation, only the support can check that, that’s all. No one here can help with this problem, cause as said in the group rules, it’s not intended to replace the support.

3-An update of the gp algorithm has been made today and might have helped her ( or not, I don’t know).

Hi Helen, have the new GP changes made much difference to your place? Ours has been set at a much more reasonable level, which was a nice surprise.
