Currently, in the review section of a member’s home description page, there is a summary of the average rating (out of 5) of the home and the total number of guest visits. It would also be useful information to see the average length of stay for the guest visits. This would give members searching for a home an idea of whether the host might be open to shorter or longer visits.
Similarly, in the review section of a member’s profile page, there is a summary of the average rating (out of 5) of the member as a host and guest. It would also be useful to see the average length of stay for a member as a guest and as a host.
Wouldn’t the average say less than a minimum and maximum number of nights? For people who sometimes travel for three or four weeks and also many weekends would give an average of, say, a week, but travelers who always travel a week would too …
I don’t know I think it would probably be more informative to have a member profile their desired stay length. Even then for us it varies by season. It is unlikely I will accept a 2 week summer stay at my beach house unless I have plans while some people typically want to exchange for a month or more. And some people can only go on school breaks. so you could maybe have a few check boxes. This member … prefers exchanges … on school breaks. of about a month etc. For your suggestion you wouldn’t want the average you would want a median length of stay.
Cafrobose,
I agree with what you say about member’s profiling their “desired” length of stay. But the unfortunate reality with all of these voluntary things (e.g. there is already a facility for hosts to specify their preferred lengths of guest-stays), many (perhaps most) people don’t take the time to complete even such a simple thing as entering a number for preferred length of stay. Also, there can be a difference between what a member says they want and the reality of what they actually finalize.
Having the system automatically calculate the average or median length of stay gives potential guests a view into the reality of guest visits at the host’s home.
And I do like your idea of using median rather than average. Or better still, display the following:
That is a bit better to have a few metrics and maybe some people will find them useful and others don’t use them which is fine. I currently only see minimum stay that you can specify for your home. You can of course specify specific dates but not maximum or preferred length of stay that I can see. Where is that?
