Exactly one year ago, we introduced a new feature on the platform: requests would automatically be declined after 4 days without any response from the recipient. One year later — just as we promised — it’s time to look back at the results.
A quick reminder: this automatic decline was introduced to improve responsiveness across the community and help members find exchanges more easily. The goal isn’t to make a decision within 4 days, but simply to acknowledge and respond to the request received.
One year later — a real benefit for the whole community
A year after launch, the Product team carried out a full analysis of the feature. The conclusion is clear: this 4-day timeframe helps create a better rhythm for exchanges, and the whole community benefits from it.
The numbers speak for themselves (automatic declines are not counted as replies in this analysis):
Real replies now arrive 3.2x faster, and 96% of replies are now sent within 3 days or less
Exchanges are finalized almost 2x faster and more often, with the success rate (an exchange finalized within 7 days of the first message) increasing by +39%
In short: less waiting, more genuine replies, and exchanges that move forward much faster. More fluidity, better momentum, and fewer unanswered requests.
We hope you’ve noticed the difference on your side too ![]()
And soon, an even better experience
Many of you told us that the automatic decline messages felt too cold, generic, or even alarming. So based on your feedback, we’ve decided to improve them:
These automatic decline emails will soon become more informative and actionable, with more personalization based on the home and member involved, making it easier for you to move on to a new request.
The banner displayed in the messaging system will also be updated with a more neutral tone as part of the overall messaging redesign.
The 4-day timeframe itself is not changing — it’s what makes the biggest difference for the community ![]()
We hope this helps clarify things. And as always, feel free to ask any questions ![]()
