Hi there
I’m a complete newbie so excuse this if it’s a silly question, I know how guest points are earned but what if you don’t have enough for a trip, say I want to stay somewhere that’s 200 GPs a night for 10 nights and I only have 1000GPs , how do I make up the deficit points to allow me to stay?
Hi,
As you said, you know how to earn points ( receiving guests at your home).
Its important to know though that you receive points as soon as you validate an exchange for guests at your home ( so if in August you vaidate guests for the following May, you receive the points in August and can use them straight away). So you can open your calendar well in advance. You can also plan to go to stay with family for a few days to build up your stock of points.
When you are new the best kind of exchanges to do are reciprocal, you dont need points for these and you gain experience.
If you wish to use your points it’s a bit of the same situation as using your money. You can’t spend what you don’t have! So either you do a shorter trip, or you look for a home that asks for a lower amount of points each night.
If necessary you can do a number of nights in exchange, then finish your trip at a hotel or campsite for example.
A final resort ( but it’s really not a good start to exchanging) is to ask member service if you can buy some points. This is ok if you are missing a very small amount, but it becomes very expensive for a larger amount. HE will also take into account the percentage of the amount you need and your profile and experience on the site. Buying points isnt an easy automatic transaction.
Thank you Susan
That’s all really helpful stuff
