Homeexchange is a great initiative and part of the share economy based on trust and can be a model to facilitate a transition from the money economy into social currencies that also give value to non tangible assets like kindness, generosity and good care. I hope the guest points could expand into many more services like car rent or car sharing, or even restaurants, food venues, leisure parks and adventures. Actually, I am part of a global social entrepreneurs community and would be great to replicate the model locally. There we go my first post, congrats Homeexchange team on the good work! And remember, enjoy the ride!
Thanks David for all the lovely words about HomeExchange
We do agree and think that the GuestPoints systems is great for offering more flexibility when organizing exchanges We wouldn’t encourage using our GuestPoints system specifically to organize car exchanges and such as it’s a system made just for exchanges and we wouldn’t want GuestPoints to become a form of currency but maybe another platform could work
We are a huge supporter of the guest points functionality of Home Exchange. We believe that it’s a great model for allowing people in a society to benefit through motivations of kindness, generosity, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness; rather than today’s vulture capitalist passive-income economy. Really, any tangible, valuable asset which a person possesses and could “loan” to other responsible people could be bartered and traded via a system similar to home exchange. I’m not suggesting that Home Exchange implement a guest-points system for car sharing, but I can certainly see a clever entrepreneur setting up a “Car Exchange” community with an annual membership fee and a system for trading their car useage on either a reciprocal or guest-points system. Could also work for assets such as bicycles, boats, planes (for the wealthy!), computers, swimming pools, etc… anything that people would like to use on a temporary basis but is too expensive to for them to buy outright. There are such systems/companies operating now, but they operate on a for-profit cash basis. The Home Exchange model is a kinder, gentler, more accessible model.
Thanks @Zann.HomeExchange You are right, not using the current Guest Points, but maybe replicating the system to cover the needs of specific communities and also becoming a scalable model for other sectors that support the share economy…
I am with you @CapBimet, we need more initiatives like this to give value to non tangible assets, promote values and good practices and boost the share economy
