Tip to find the perfect exchange: Be flexible (if you can)!

Today, I’m going to tell you about one of the principles of home exchange, but also about one of its magical powers.

Destinations that are victims of their own success

There are destinations everyone dreams of: Rome, Venice, Paris, Amsterdam, London, New York, and many others. All of these destinations are victims of their own success - and, in many cases, of over-tourism, so much so that some, like Amsterdam, for example, are beginning to take steps to combat this trend.

As you can imagine, members in these destinations receive hundreds of exchange requests every month. So what can you do? How about being a little flexible - if you can?

Look around

The beauty of home exchange is that you don’t have to immerse yourself in the flood of tourists: just a few kilometres from Amsterdam, New York, Barcelona or London, you’ll find plenty of small towns that are great places to stay - and that will allow you to visit the “big city” you’re looking for. Enjoy the peace and quiet of a home away from it all after a day’s sightseeing!

Discover less touristy regions

The other option is to explore a lesser-known town or region: you browse the site or the app, play with the map, look at the houses and then, boom! you’ve fallen in love with this old farmhouse, or this tiny house, or this charming apartment. But where are they located? You don’t even know the name of the town. Isn’t that even more magical? You’re about to discover a place that only a few know about, with its own unique assets, in an environment that really appeals to you.

Let yourself be surprised

Ask HomeExchangers who know how to let themselves be surprised by lesser-known destinations if they’ve ever been disappointed - their answer will rarely be yes!

Because that’s the charm and magic of HomeExchange: because members are everywhere, in real houses and apartments, nothing, absolutely nothing, forces you to join the hordes of tourists that populate certain destinations. Never forget: you’re a HomeExchanger, and the adventure starts around the corner.

So let yourself be surprised, think about playing with the map, and you’ll see that you’ll please those members who receive far fewer exchange proposals than those who live in the big tourist cities, and that you’ll enjoy a truly unique and authentic experience.
