Hello, I’m a new UK member and paid over 180 pound for an annual membership. I heard that in France it’s only 160 Euros. Is that correct, and if so, why is that the case?
I am struggling to find hosts for exchanges at the moment (plenty of guest requests though), so considering cancelling my membership again after my first year, as I may not even be able to recuperate my costs.

I’m in the UK too
The pricing structure is very similar worldwide for membership - there are slight variations to account for the different currencies. In England for example the fee for new members is £180, the fee in France is 175€. I have to admit that when I told my friends and family I was joining HomeExchange they did think I was slightly crazy - but now when they see all of the amazing places and homes we go to and the people we have met along the way then they are quickly changing their minds. I think the issue here is that HomeExchange has been a more familiar name and concept on the continent for longer than here in the UK. Having said this, I have has some really great exchanges in the past year with members in South Devon, Bristol, London and the Cotswolds
all in the UK so please don’t give up yet!

Oh also please do share with us your home link - i’d love to come to Scotland
Hello spongefingerbase
I could not say it it is the reason, but compagnies have to deal with the currency exchange risk.
As there was the Brexit, the pound rate may vary more than before the Brexit / €.
The exchange rate is never that far out. €175 is around £150, never £180 (that would be €208). I don’t know what HE’s explanation is, but it seems unfair not to have made this difference in UK clear from the start. I personally would not have signed up knowing I’d have to pay over €200, and I daresay some of the continental members feel the same.
Hi Melissa, thanks for your encouragement, but I’m not looking to host any more for the time being, as there’s no point if I cannot use up my points in Scotland turn, I’m afraid.
I just saved 6000 Euros staying in a coastal Spanish house in high season. That’s what it would cost to holiday rent. I looked it up.
Last summer I saved 4000 Euros staying for 10 days in Germany with 7 family members.
Point of order: There’s no requirement to pay any membership until you have secured your first exchange. I was a free member before agreeing to a swap in Germany in Dec 2023 for the following summer then joined and finalised it.
I don’t understand how a 30 Euro difference in the price of membership (0.5% of the cost savings of just one summer holiday) makes the slightest bit of difference? Take your own sandwiches on Ryanair or Easyjet and you have saved 30 Euros.
Of all the subscriptions I pay on the internet, Home Exchange’s membership gives me the best return on investment by a country mile.
Obviously you do actually have to use it to make exchanges. That’s true of everything. Netflix is expensive if you cannot find anything to watch. I arrange 2 holidays per year, so the UK membership could be 50% more than the French and I wouldn’t bat an eyelid. It would still be great value.
