Hello, I’m new to HomeExchange, and have already made a couple of bookings within the first few days, both as a host and guest, which is exciting - wasn’t actually expecting it to work that quickly! My question is how far in advance do you send guests the directions to find and get into your home? Some of my guests are not coming for several weeks, and although I have a Google doc link ready to send, maybe it’s best to wait and send the info nearer their visit, both so they don’t have time to lose them, and maybe for security? What do other people do about this?
Dear @Tara
For security, the members has all the information when concluding the exchange (adress, maps etc).
A few don’t write the full adress (ex : they don’t write the number of the street).
I don’t like it. It is not usual on HE to be trustless.
So i would say it depends if the member answers quickly to the messages.
So maybe 10 days before the date to be sure the member has understood the information.
I think the best is one week before to have time to print and read carefully and ask for more details if necessary.
Think about how far in advance you need the information to feel confortable when you are travelling.
Thank you @Nathalie1 - that’s really helpful. A week before makes sense, especially, as you say, so people can ask any questions. I use Airbnb sometimes, and on there it’s usually 48 hours, but a little bit of extra leeway seems like a good idea.
I’m Happy to be helpful.
The problem with BB is that they were a few scams.
On BB, the guest also has the adress when booking.
The host give the information such as the key box code 1 week in advance and the booking is cancelled 5 days days before the date of arrival, they stays for half the price or for free depending on the cancellation policy.
This is why i sent the information less than 5 days before arriving (moderate cancellation policy).
On HE it does not seem possible as the host is free to give the GPs back if there is a cancellation.
I have never heard any scam from active members on HE (and i am quite an old member on the site).
Hackers exist.
Last minute cancellation exist.
But i never heard about members cancelling and coming for free,
