Each month, we introduce you to a member of the group. It’s not necessarily someone who is very active or often heard from in the group, either. Just like HomeExchange itself, this group is made up of people from all walks of life, with different homes, stories, and experiences. Through this series, we want to celebrate that diversity and, most importantly, get to know you better. 
So today, we’re taking you to meet Lisa and Allan
What’s your name, how old are you and where do you live?
We are Lisa and Allan, 59 & 63 yrs old living in Far North Queensland, Australia. We also have a home in Japan.
How long have you been a member of HomeExchange, and what made you want to give it a try?
I happened to read a post in one of my FB groups suggesting a house swap in Bali for a month. We remembered that friends of ours used to be members of a Home Exchange group, so we called them to get some more details.
Since we had downsized from our beautiful home in South East Queensland in 2025 and bought 2 smaller properties, we decided to join HE in January 2026. We love the fact that we can still enjoy both properties ourselves.
In general, do you travel solo, with your family or with friends?
We are a little team and go everywhere together. We have travelled a lot. Including back packing, hotels, motels, villas, and time spent with our parents in the UK.
What’s your most memorable exchange — what made it special?
Actually, our first Exchanges are about to start very soon. We will be receiving lots of families from Europe spending their summer holidays in our home in Japan while we are back to work in Australia.
One piece of advice for members who are just starting out?
We are just starting out too! We have faith in the fact that HomeExchange members are home owners themselves so will treat our home and neighbours respectfully. We have realised once a plan is in action, how important it is to reply to requests and to be flexible when we are requesting.

The next destination you’re dreaming of?
It’s really important for me now to spend as much time as possible with my mother in the UK. But eventually we are so looking forward to visiting South America and soon enough we are hoping to do some longer term exchanges, 2 or 3 months.
