Guest to guest bought Homeexchange in 2017 and there was the star system before on Homeexchange with stars and review. And everybody could subscribe.
Exactly as it is now.
Everyone has always given 5 stars even if it was not perfect. Just like our own homes.
However, it was mainly simultaneous or non simultaneous exchanges (even if a kind of ballon system existed) so the relationship was more friendly and less commercial minded.
If now hosts are scared to have a bad review, it means that this website has lost its most wonderful aspects : kindness , tolerance and generosity.
