# Car Insurance

We are about to start our first exchange. We have agreed to use each other’s cars. Has anyone had experience with insurance coverage for cars for HE guests?

Hello, car swaps are not covered in any way by HomeExchange, they are a completely private arrangement.

I have done a couple with car swaps. Insurance companies do NOT like them. The rule of thumb (at least in US) is “If someone else is driving your car and another person causes the accident, **the at-fault driver’s insurance is usually responsible for covering costs**. On the other hand, if the driver of your car is at fault, your car insurance will usually cover damages.” It becomes more complicated for international.
